What is the PADI Bubblemaker Program?
The Bubblemaker program is an introductory scuba diving experience designed by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) specifically for children. It is introduced as a fun, safe, and exciting way to experience the underwater world under the direct supervision of a certified PADI Professional.
1. Requirements & Prerequisites
-
Minimum Age: Children must be 8 years old or older.
-
Water Comfort: Children should be comfortable in the water, but they don’t need to be expert swimmers.
-
Parental Consent: A parent or guardian must sign the paperwork before the activity starts.
2. Where Does It Take Place?
Safety is the top priority, so the experience is strictly limited to controlled environments:
-
Swimming Pools: The most common and recommended location.
-
Confined Open Water: A calm, shallow protected area in the sea (with pool-like conditions).
-
Maximum Depth: A maximum of 2 meters (6 feet).
3. What Do the Kids Learn?
The session is highly interactive and focused on fun rather than complex academic study. Children will learn how to:
-
Use Scuba Gear: Breathe through a regulator and wear child-sized scuba equipment (mask, fins, tank, and BCD).
-
Breathe Underwater: Experience the unique sensation of taking their very first breaths beneath the surface.
-
Basic Skills: Learn simple safety habits, like how to clear water from their regulator and mask, presented through fun games.
4. Program Structure
-
Briefing: The instructor explains how the equipment works, the basic rules of safety, and essential underwater hand signals.
-
The Dive: Kids gear up and enter the water to get comfortable with the breathing apparatus.
-
Underwater Games: Instructors typically introduce underwater games (like catching sinking toys or playing with a sub-aquatic frisbee) to build confidence.
